Hard times will come, with hardships and trials beyond measure
The saint draws our attention to a great danger: the cooling of faith and even the rejection of Christ. Not through a sudden gesture, but through indifference, through gradual distancing, through forgetting prayer and spiritual life. Therefore, he calls us to be careful, not to sleep spiritually, but to remain alive in faith.
Let us fraternize in love, live in unity, support each other on the path of salvation. Let us not be alone in the fight, but together, in a spirit of prayer, in obedience and in humility. The spiritual life is not a choice for a few, but a calling for each of us.
Let us “cling” to Christ, as a child clings to its mother, with complete trust and without fear. Let us not rely on our own strength, but on the grace of God, who strengthens the weak and lifts the fallen. In Christ we find peace, courage and the strength to go on, even in the most difficult trials.
When the heart is united with Christ, fear disappears. Neither devils, nor sufferings, nor trials can overcome the soul that lives in grace. Because where Christ is, there is light, there is victory, there is life.
Let us therefore strengthen ourselves in faith, let us pray more, let us love more and remain steadfast. Because no matter how hard the times may be, he who remains with Christ will never be defeated. Amen.
"Hard times will come, with tribulations and trials beyond measure," Saint Paisios the Athonite warns us with love and pain. But what are these tribulations? They are those moments when the soul is tried, when faith is put to the test, and man is called to choose between the light of Christ and the darkness of the world.
