The tears of Saint Archangel Michael and the miracle of the healing of a deaf-mute girl

It was Monday, a winter morning. In the church of the Holy Archangels, the Holy Mass had been celebrated. A young lady, holding a little girl by the hand, came forward with great reverence to receive the anaphora. Kissing the priest’s hand, she said to him in secret:

‒ Father, I would like to speak to you for a moment. Is that possible?

‒ Yes. I will be at the office in a moment. Come there.

Indeed, in a moment, a lady entered the office with her husband and their child, accompanied by another couple.

‒ Father, I can’t hold it in any longer. I want to speak. I think I did wrong not to speak until now. But I feel a weight inside me, and I want to be relieved.

‒ I am listening to you, my child. Speak.

‒ My name is Milona Eleni. My husband and I are military. On April 8th, my sister came from Germany with her little daughter, who had undergone heart surgery in that country. An undesirable effect of this intervention on the little girl was that she became deaf and mute. The child was then six years old.

My sister had read about the Archangel Michael of Mantamados and his wonderful icon. She believed in his intercession and traveled from Germany for him. We immediately came here together, to the church. In the evening, after the prayer and the chapel that we made in front of the icon of the Archangel, we went up to our rooms.

I stayed in the room with my niece, Evgenula. I had not fallen asleep, because it had become very cold and I was taking care of the little niece not to undress, when I heard heavy footsteps on the wooden steps of the veranda. I was afraid, because our room was the first, number 1, right next to the stairs, a room with 2 beds. I curled up in my blankets and waited... The footsteps continued to be heard, they stopped for a short while, and then they headed towards our room. I covered myself more in the blankets and left only my eyes outside to see the door.

The door latch moved, and it opened wide. A tall, very handsome, very well-dressed young man, who radiated a bright light around him, entered the room.

He stayed for quite a while, bending over the child. The room had warmed up as if it were summer, and all the objects in the room were visible; it was like seeing a wonderful dream. How long that young man stayed, I cannot tell you; it was as if time did not flow, but stopped.

I did not sleep all night, but prayed. I did not even dare to go out and go to the next room, to my sister. In the morning, Evgenula woke up happy and in a good mood. My sister, along with everyone in her group, along with her little girl, fasted in order to be able to receive communion.

I went down to the church and participated in the Holy Mass. At the end, my niece also received communion, along with the other believers. Then, your holiness concluded the service, closing the Holy Doors, when we went to the icon of the Archangel to receive his blessing and to say goodbye. Then, oh, my God, what was given to me to see! The face of the Archangel Michael took on the shape, color and liveliness of a completely living human face! As I took Evgenula to kiss the icon, tears flowed from the large and expressive eyes of the Holy Archangel! I quickly took some cotton wool from my bag and wiped them away. Then I slipped the cotton wool into my niece’s mouth. We didn’t have time to stay, because we had to leave. On the way, Evgenula began to hear, and soon she began to shout loudly:

‒ Maaaamaaaa!

You can imagine the joy, surprise, and emotion that gripped us! We cried, hugged each other, and made the sign of the Holy Cross. Our Evgenia could hear and speak!

When my sister arrived in Germany, she took her little girl to the hospital where she had had the operation when she was younger and where she had been left deaf and speechless. There, the Greek cardiologist Aramos took her to the board of surgeons, showed her to the doctors, and emphasized:

‒ This wonderful event is a clear testimony to the power of our Orthodox faith.

Since then, the little girl began to behave and live normally, to hear and speak. She is now 12 years old, and paradoxically, she also has great success in music. Her name is Evghenia Varuti, and she lives in Düsseldorf, Germany.
