How do we heal spiritual wounds?

When you are wounded in spirit, from the fall into sin through weakness or wickedness, do not diminish your spirit and do not be troubled, but turn to God and say: "Behold, Lord, what I have done as a man; it was not possible to expect anything else from me, one with such a weak and helpless will. Nothing was to be expected but a fall and a collapse". And here, condemn yourself in your own eyes enough, break your heart with great sorrow for what you have caused God, but, without being troubled, condemn your evil passions and especially that passion that caused your fall. Then say: "My Lord, even until now I could not have stood, if You had not supported me through Your supreme goodness".

Thank Him and love Him more than ever. Marvel at such mercy that, although He was offended by you, He gives you His right hand again and protects you from falling into sin. Finally, with great trust in His boundless mercy, say: “You, Lord, forgive me, and in the future do not let me live apart from You, nor distance myself from You or offend You again.”

Even if you do so, do not think that He has forgiven you, because this lazy trust is pride, delusion of mind, wasted time, devilish deception, colored with different colors. Therefore entrust yourself to the hands of God and follow your struggle as if you had not fallen. And if, out of weakness, you sin several times a day and remain wounded, always do what I have told you, with more hope in God. Hate sin more, rebuke yourself and force yourself to live with more vigilance. Of course, this does not please the devil, precisely because it is very pleasing to God and because the enemy remains ashamed to see himself defeated by the one he used to defeat. Therefore, he devises various forms of deception to prevent us from this struggle. Often he achieves his goal due to our inattention and lack of care for ourselves. The more the enemy opposes you, the more you force yourself to repeat it many times, even if you have fallen into sin only once.

And if, after you have sinned, you feel that you are angry, troubled and discouraged, so that you can regain peace of heart and courage, repeat these exercises as I have told you, until you recover and after you have armed yourself with these weapons, return to God. For this anger and this disturbance which follow sin come from the consequence of condemnation, that is, from self-love, as I have often said. This is the way to regain your peace: then forget completely the fall into sin and think only of the immeasurable goodness of God.

This story from the Patericon also fits here. A monk fell into fornication and because the thought of despair within upset him - for he felt that he had lost his soul and could no longer be saved -, he, like a wise man and a master in the unseen war, said to his thoughts: "I have not sinned, I have not sinned", until he entered his cell and locked the door. After reconciling his heart, he did the due penance for the sin he had committed; which was revealed to another old wanderer with the thought that this monk had sinned, but had risen and overcome.

Meditate that the Lord is very diligent and willing to forgive every sin, however great, calling the sinner in various ways and through various paths to come to Him and unite with Him by grace, in this life, and in the next to sanctify him with His Glory and make him eternally happy. And when you have calmed your conscience and reconciled your heart with such thoughts, return to your fall and do as I told you above.

Then, at confession, which I urge you to do as often as possible, remember all your sins and with new pain and bitterness for the grief you have caused God, make a firm and definitive decision to anger Him no more; Show them all to your spiritual father and perform with special zeal the canon he gave you.
