My dear soul, do not postpone holy repentance
Remember, my soul, the terrible and terrifying miracle of your Creator, Who for you became man and suffered for your salvation; His angels tremble, the Cherubim are terrified, the Seraphim are terrified, and all the heavenly powers glorify Him unceasingly, and you, unhappy soul, are lazy, at least from now on do not postpone, my dear soul, holy repentance, sorrow of heart and atonement for your sins.
But postponing year after year, month after month, and day after day, you will no longer want to repent with all your heart, and you will not find anyone to pity you; oh, with how many torments you will begin to repent, but to no avail. Having the opportunity to do a good deed today, do not postpone, my beloved soul, do not postpone holy repentance, because you cannot know what today may bring, any misfortune may befall you tonight, because you do not know what day or night will bring you: a long life or a hard and sudden death awaits you.
Today, my dear soul, is the time of holy repentance; today, my soul, is the time of patience; today is the time to endure bitterness; today is the time to fulfill the commandments and perform good deeds; today is the time of sweet weeping and lamentation with tears. If you truly want to be saved, my soul, love bitterness, sighing, as you loved peace before; live as if you were dying daily; for your life will quickly pass like the shadow of a cloud before the sun and you will remain unknown and forgotten; the days of our life seem to be flowing into thin air; do not give in even to the most severe bitterness. In relations with people, in unseen and visible suffering, do not give in to sorrow, do not be troubled, do not flee, but consider yourself as the dust under their feet. Without these, you cannot be saved and escape eternal torment. For our lives pass quickly as if a day passes. If a man does not perfect himself piously through virtues or does not sacrifice his life for the fulfillment of the commandments of the Holy Fathers, he cannot be saved.
