The Holy Cross and Holy Communion overcome demons and witchcraft
A man who loved Christ, from Babylon in Egypt, and was one of the honorable, was a few years ago entrusted by the authorities with the care of the prison, behaving well and compassionately towards those imprisoned therein. We need not mention his name, for he is still alive. This man told us with the most terrifying oaths:
“One day, after some sorcerers had been imprisoned with me, I often went in to examine them separately, as is the custom of those who are entrusted with such a task, taking down their statements and their words in writing, in order to bring the matter to the authorities. One of them, who was older, when he saw my discernment, that I behaved towards them with love for people and that I had feelings of compassion for all those there, took me aside and said to me in the Theban language: “I swear to you by God, Who delivered us into your hands, that you will never sit at our examination, of the four sorcerers, without first taking communion and wearing the cross around your neck. For my companions are evil men and want to harm you. But if you do as I tell you neither I, nor these, nor any other man will be able to harm you”.
If demons and sorcerers confess this, it is clear that more wicked than these are those who do not confess the Holy Body of Christ and who blaspheme His Cross at every moment and punish us for His Cross. Whom do I mean? The enemies of the Cross (these “enemies of the Cross” are the Arabs, who persecuted the Christians at that time), whose end is perdition (Cf. Philippians 3:18-19), according to what God says through the mouth of Paul the Apostle.
