The Life of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John

The honorable transfer of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John, the Spokesman of God, who leaned on the chest of the Savior, the lover of virginity and the beloved disciple of Christ, is celebrated on the 26th of September, where his holy life was written in detail. And on this day, only the commemoration of the healing dust is honored, which miraculously comes out of his tomb every year, on the eighth day of May, and which the Christians there call manna. Because Saint John, having lived for more than a hundred years and laboring in the good news of Christ, went out with seven of his disciples from the city of Ephesus and commanded them to dig a tomb for him in the form of the Cross and in it - as it is written in his life - to be buried alive. Hearing of this, the brothers of the city went and dug up his grave, but they did not find the body of the apostle and returned, weeping for him much. After that, they often went to his grave, where they offered their prayers to God, calling on Saint John for help and intercession.

Then every year, on this month and day, a fine, miraculous powder began to come out of his grave, which the faithful, taking it, healed the infirmities and passions that were in the people. Therefore, it was established on this day, as well as in the month of September, to praise him with church hymns of praise and to make this beloved of God happy, who was loved by God more than others. With his prayers, may we also gain healing from our spiritual and bodily illnesses, and may we be worthy of being pleasing and loved by Christ our God.
